In today's world, where the global climate crisis is deepening, resources are diminishing, and needs are increasing due to the growing population, the more efficient use of underground and surface resources has become crucial in our country and around the world. The most effective measure that can be taken is to reduce the need for fossil fuel-based energy plants and sustain comfort and development by increasing the efficiency of energy-consuming processes.
Programs are being implemented in many sectors for the efficient use of energy. Effective use of resources in the agricultural sector is also one of the issues that need to be addressed rapidly in our country. Water and energy are the most important inputs in agricultural production. The efficient use of these inputs will contribute to increasing profitability and sustainability in agricultural production.
Since 2017, the "Increasing Energy Efficiency in Irrigation Pumps Project" has been implemented with the financing of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) Regional Development Administration, under the coordination of the GAP Agricultural Research Institute (GAPTAEM) and with the support of Mardin Artuklu University. Within the scope of this project, field surveys and solution proposals were researched for the effective use of water and energy in the areas where pumping irrigation is performed in the region. In order to share the findings and solution proposals of the project and to consider different suggestions from stakeholders, a "Congress and Workshop on Energy Efficiency in Agricultural Irrigation" will be organized. The congress will be held on June 7-9, 2023, at the Rectorate building of Mardin Artuklu University. The program will include academic presentations as well as a scientific brainstorming and event festival with the participation of experts from institutions and organizations such as Harran University, Dicle University, Mardin Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Şanlıurfa Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, Dicle Electricity Distribution Co. Inc., DSİ GAP 15th, 16th, 10th Regional Directorates, private sector, and NGOs.
